| Abstract |
| Advances in the field of nanotechnology and its applications to the field of medicines and pharmaceuticals in phytomedicines are believed to have benefits over conventional drugs and are regaining interest in the current research. On the other hand, several reports indicated that low doses of γ-irradiation may stimulate the immune system. In this study the protective effect of nano-Moringa oleifera (MO) leaves extract and/or low doses of γ- irradiation on acute pancreatitis models induced in rats were investigated. 5 groups of albino rats were used, 10 rats in each group. All animals were sacrificed after one-week post treatments. Acute pancreatitis revealed a remarkably significant increase in lipase, amylase, Random Blood Sugar (RBS), C-Reactive Protein (CRP) and revealed a significant decrease in insulin levels, Insulin growth factor 1 (IGF1). Examination of histopathological pancreatic tissue sections showed a cluster of immune cells (lymphoid aggregate), hemorrhage, and necrotic acini. After treatment with low doses of γ-irradiation and nano-Moringa leaves extract either alone or combined, a remarkable decrease when compared to the positive control group (PC) was detected. On the other hand, the normal appearance of tissue structure (normal islets of Langerhans and normal acini) was observed. In conclusion, nano-Moringa oleifera leaves extract and/or low doses of γ- irradiation has a therapeutic effect on acute pancreatitis model induced in rats. |
