| Abstract |
| Background: Cryopreservation induces sub-lethal damage to spermatozoa, reducing their fertility. Some biochemical additives may enhance human semen freeze ability; L-carnitine is one of these biochemical semen additives. Aim of work: This study evaluates the effect of adding antioxidants to the freezing medium and the impact of semen preparation after complete thawing. Methods: The male factor semen samples were collected and divided into two main groups (100 cases per group), with four sub-groups per group. The first group cryopreservation of human raw semen treated with acetyl-L-carnitine was compared with the control (raw semen). The second group, the cryopreservation of prepared semen and treated with acetyl-L-carnitine, was compared with the control (prepared semen). Then the sperm's vital parameters, such as morphology, motility, and progressive motility, were investigated. And data were compared with each other with statistical analysis software and SPSS. Results and Conclusion: acetyl-L-carnitine was an effective antioxidant against cryo-damage on post-thawed human spermatozoa. |
