| Abstract |
| This study aimed to investigate the effect of ethanol seed-pulp extract of Dialium guineense on the hematological parameters of male Wistar albino rats. Eighteen rats were randomly divided into three groups: group A received 0.1 ml of normal saline, while groups B and C received 200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg of the extract, respectively, once daily for 14 days via oral intubation. After 14 days, the rats were sacrificed and blood samples were collected. Red and white blood cell counts, hemoglobin level, packed cell volume, and platelet concentration were determined using standard methods. The results showed that the administration of Dialium guineense extract significantly (p < 0.05) decreased the packed cell volume and increased the red and white blood cell counts, with no significant effect on hemoglobin and platelet concentration. These findings suggest that Dialium guineense extract may have potential as a natural remedy for conditions requiring alterations in hematological parameters. |
